Privacy Policy

Green Lane Counselling Ltd

Your privacy is taken seriously at Green Lane Counselling Ltd. Any personal information you share is handled with care and in line with UK data protection law (UK GDPR), as well as professional and ethical requirements.

This notice applies to current and former clients.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a central part of counselling. What you share in sessions is treated as confidential, creating a safe space where you can talk openly about your life, thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

There are a small number of exceptions to confidentiality, which are legal and ethical requirements. Confidentiality may be broken only if:

  • there is a serious risk of harm to you or to others
  • a serious crime or terrorism is disclosed
  • there is a medical emergency
  • disclosure is required by law, including a court order

Where possible, this would always be discussed with you first.

What information is collected

To support your therapeutic work, Green Lane Counselling Ltd may collect and store limited personal information, including:

  • your name and contact details
  • emergency contact information
  • GP details
  • date of birth
  • relevant  background or health information
  • agreed fee level

This information is stored securely and accessed only by the counsellor.

Brief session notes are also kept for professional and clinical purposes. These notes do not contain unnecessary identifying details.

How your information is stored

All personal data is stored securely, either electronically with password protection or in line with appropriate security measures. Access is restricted to the counsellor only.

A minimal contact record (name and phone number only) may be held separately so that a nominated person can contact clients in the unlikely event of incapacity or death.

How long information is kept

  • Client registration information is kept for the duration of the therapeutic work.
  • Session notes are retained for seven years after the end of the therapeutic      contract, in line with professional and legal requirements, and are then      securely deleted.

Supervision

Counselling work is supported by clinical supervision, as required by professional standards. Limited details may be shared with a supervisor, who is bound by the same confidentiality and ethical obligations. Only first names are used, and no identifying information is shared.

Website data

If you contact Green Lane Counselling Ltd through the website, your details will be used only to respond to your enquiry. Visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection services.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal data, request corrections, withdraw consent where applicable, and raise concerns about how your information is handled. Some data may still need to be retained where there is a legal or professional obligation to do so.
